Isolation Anniversary Long Term Care Webinar
REVISED: Family Caregiving and Residents’ Rights
https://www.caregivingandresidentsrights.com/
(click link at time of webinar)
A Conversation with
Dr.Candace Kemp, Professor at Georgia State University and Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America
Toby Edelman, Senior Policy Attorney with the Center for Medicare Advisory
Residents in long term care communities are living in isolation, without customary social interaction, and are separated from their families. This webinar will first review academic research results on why family members are “more than visitors” and serve a critical role in formal and informal caregiving. Second, the webinar will educate on the current state of Residents’ Right, including an historical perspective and an explanation of industry lingo that can be confusing to families. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the speakers will address considerations on balancing long-term care residents’ rights with needs of the community.
Brought to you by: The Essential Caregivers Coalition, Caregivers for Compromise, FACE for Seniors, Nursing Home Lives Matter
**PLEASE NOTE: Evan Shulman, Director of Director for the Division of Nursing Homes in the Quality, Safety and Oversight Group within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will not be participating in our webinar. Despite our rescheduling efforts, Mr. Shulman had a "continuing urgent matter" that prevented him from appearing. The main portion of our discussion regarding Visitation Guidance, as directed by CMS, will not be directly addressed. While we are disappointed, the insight and perspectives that Candace Kemp and Toby Edelman provide regarding Family Caregiving and Residents' Rights is extremely valuable for us all as we continue in this fight. Please tune in to "Family Caregiving and Residents' Rights.

NC Lockdown Anniversary Gathering
Wednesday March 10th is the day we stand on the sidewalk in front of the North Carolina legislative building holding our banners that basically say Essential Caregivers..... When? We'll be holding up hand made posters with pictures of our loved ones before the March 13, 2020 lockdown and now.
Bring a wheelchair or a walker, bring a poster you make showing the condition of your loved one before the lockdown and now.
We'll meet at 16 West Jones Street, Raleigh at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 10th. That's the physical address for the legislative building. Another nearby landmark is the Daily Planet Cafe on the corner of S. Salisbury and West Jones Street (part of the NC Museum). We plan to stay until 2:00 PM, so come as you are able. Bring a camp stool or a wheelchair, some bottled water, umbrella, whatever else you need, and help us let the legislators and the media know that it is time to put the rights of our loved ones ahead of staff who refuse to be vaccinated, yet they are the ones PROVEN to be who causes Covid in nursing homes. The tail is truly wagging the dog, and this must come to an end and never be repeated.
